Name: Yukari Takeba
Canon: Persona 3
Canon Point: 11/04/2009 - Before Aigis was turned by Ikutsuki against the team, but after they defeated the 12 Shadows. So right around the time of the celebratory party.
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Appearance: Here goes
History/Background: Welcome, my friends, to the show that never ends. We're so glad you came along, come inside, come inside.
Personality: Yukari has a pretty strong personality; she tends to stand out, and it's not just because she wears pink all the time. Her sharp tongue, short temper, and quick reactions to pretty much everything are a constant with her, and when they arise, they make her the center of attention - whether or not she really wants to be (and she frequently doesn't want to be). Her dynamic reactions also give her a reputation for having mood swings. However, though she's very easy to pick out because of her more negative aspects, her negative side isn't always shown, and she has a far deeper kindness and compassion. Yukari has always been the kind of person others are drawn to, and it's usually because she's smiling, and always seems to be willing to help out anyone that needs it - as long as they're not being perverted about it, of course. Even with all the things she's gone through in the past, her demeanor is typically upbeat and cheerful, but she is very easily serious when she needs to be. She speaks pretty casually, is fairly smart and does well in school, and of course is really popular, especially among the male population. She is a little girly and likes painting her nails, and going shopping, and dressing in pretty outfits (in fact, she likes dressing in pretty outfits a lot more than she lets on; she's a cosplayer, even if she doesn't like to admit it out loud; the Female MC's side of the story showed that, as did the little video you can find of Yukari and the maid outfit), and is at least a little vain and selfish.
She has a markedly large amount of trust issues and abandonment problems, stemming from a history of parental emotional neglect and childhood bullying... as well as from her father dying. There is something very guarded about Yukari at times - she's friendly and easy to make acquaintances with, but it tends to be harder to get to be real, true friends with her. It takes until mid-November - about half the game - and the death of a parent for Yukari to really, truly start to become close to Mitsuru due to the suspicions she'd had toward the other girl with Mitsuru's family company. Even the things about her father she didn't speak to anyone at any great length about until a video of him in his final moments was shown to the entire group. She only then got into her family issues, and even still, it was only to the protag, really. That said, she does, when at ease, smile more often than not, and tends to be a friendly presence to those who might need her help.
For better or worse, she also has a very strong will, and when she sets her mind to something, she does not relent easily until she has what she wants out of it. She can be blunt and confrontative, and a lot of times lacks subtlety in her interactions with people... even if she's trying for subtlety. She also is pretty bullheaded, stubborn, and unyielding about certain things, especially when it comes to sating her curiosity. When she gets into something, she sticks there. Usually this comes in the form of answers, such as her dogged search for the truth regarding her father's death, or under less serious circumstances like the time she challenged the protag and Junpei to scour the school to quell a rumor that there was a ghost attacking students, but it can extend to other things. She did briefly become an antagonist after she decided, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that she wanted to see the Protagonist and save him from his fate, after all. She also was the first one to grill Mitsuru for details about the Dark Hour and what it was they were fighting for in the beginning.
During the course of Persona 3, and in particular her Social Link, she does get some good work in on settling some of her more tumultuous aspects. She had previously been a very lonely person, with her primary friend and confidant being a cell phone charm that she got from her father. After she developed a strong friendship with the protagonist, and later Mitsuru, she learned how to open up a little better to other people, and not be quite so worried they might end up out of her life like her father did. She also learned to open up her emotions a bit more - she's not exactly an open book, and never will be, but she is somewhat more honest with herself how she feels, and in turn, is somewhat more honest in how she portrays emotions to other people. The main character even managed to get a love confession out of her at the conclusion of her Social Link despite how standoffish and prickly she can be. She does, however, tend to believe in fair exchange, so if someone is willing to divulge lots of personal details about themselves, she sometimes loosens up and shakes a few of her own details loose, if only so they're on even footing. To do otherwise just seems sort of shady to her. Even with all the trust issues.
She's rather self-conscious of her public image. How other people perceive her is something she places a lot of stock into, and the thought of things like rumors about her or negative opinions bother her, even if she, again, sometimes tries to pretend it doesn't bother her. From the beginning, she was sensitive to rumors that she and the protag were dating when all she had done was show him the way to school, and it persists even later on in the game. It's likely a problem stemming back to her childhood, and exactly how much bullying she had to put up with before she and her mother left Port Island to start over in Kyoto, but either way, a good way to get her flustered, nervous, or otherwise upset is to somehow put her as the center of attention, and/or start a rumor against her. This self-consciousness also extends, in a way, to her friends - the Protagonist must max out his 'Charm' stat in order to open her Social Link at all, implying that he must have a good public image for her to want to be seen with him alone. That said, it can lead to her being somewhat judgmental, as well.
Her temper is certainly a force to be reckoned with, and remains as quick to flare as it always has been, but also just as quick to go away. It sometimes lands her in trouble as her anger will occasionally cause her to act first, lashing out, before she has a chance to think about what is going on or reel it in. Usually, however, she will be pretty quick to apologize to whomever was on the receiving end of that sudden burst, if she was out of line. If she wasn't, they can deal with it. The protagonist got an apology for being slapped after the incident in Shirokawa; Ryoji did not for getting his foot stomped, but he deserved it.
Also, she is still terrified of ghosts and horror-oriented... anything. She snaps at Junpei something fierce when he tries to bring up his horror-oriented "Junpei's Believe It or Don't" during the course of the game. It's worth mentioning it's always been an easy way to upset her.
Carrier: An eagle, if I may! Something like this! Argus. Creepy, quiet, judgmental, always watching. So the opposite of Yukari in all ways but one.
Magic Weapon: Tempest:
A bow. It shoots arrows. Its 'awakened'/activated ability is that it can charge an arrow with the power of wind. When loosed, the arrow is shoved along by a powerful tailwind that increases the speed, and impact of the shot. The impact has a chance to knock down/knock back enemies that aren't either rooted to the ground or particularly large; this chance and the power of the blowback increases the more she practices it and gets used to hitting things with it.
